I found myself agreeing with Tony Campolo on several points in this interview by Beliefnet:
www.beliefnet.com/story/150...052_1.html
I didn't become a Christian until after college, though I was raised Methodist. I was turned away from the faith by many of the attitudes condemned by Campolo, and I know many non-believes are, as well.
The Christianity I hear Atheists condeming is not the Christianity I've found in the Bible - so how do we 'take back the faith', for lack of a better term? Paul warns against divisions between Christians, but what do I do when faced with a dichotomy such as Campolo mentions?

Re: A Hijacked Faith
Tue, November 23, 2004 - 8:44 AMAlong similar lines:
"If ever the book which I am not going to write is written it must be the full confession by Christendom of Christendom's specific contribution to the sum of human curelty and treachery. Large areas of 'the World' will not hear us till we have publicly disowned much of our past. Why should they? We have shouted the name of Christ and enacted the service of Moloch."

Re: A Hijacked Faith
Wed, November 24, 2004 - 9:41 AMThis is a good quote. C.S. Lewis was such a smart guy with great perspective. We would do well to reference him on many of the issues the church struggles with. Our history is beautiful and yet contemptious....just like the biblical record of man's relationship with God. The church (God's people) have never been in right relationship with Christ since the fall of man. Admitting our sin and turning away from it is what we should try to do on the small issues and the big issues.
Good words Jared, keep them coming.
